On September 30, 2015, Apple released OS X El Capitan (10.11.0). UIT is actively testing El Capitan to determine UH compatibility. Until we are able to validate software and UH compatibility, as well as third party vendors, we are not able to provide full support for OS X El Capitan.

Until the necessary testing is complete, we strongly encourage all UH students, faculty, and staff to avoid upgrading to ensure our ability to provide support for OS X El Capitan, third party software, and UIT systems.
UIT encourages all users to work with their IT managers before upgrading to ensure 3rd party software compatibility. Please work with your IT manager to ensure that any pertinent software is compatible before updating your device.
Why?
Each IT department is required to perform different tasks, and have many distinct and separate needs. Administrators can test the software with regard to the departments needs, and determine whether to upgrade based on their environment.
Disclaimer: A technical change in 10.11 is as follows - El Capitan has made significant changes to security known as System Integrity Protection, which applies a security policy to all active system processes. App store software follows a more restrictive policy and aren't impacted. Third party vendors will be greatly impacted, as they will likely have to redesign their application software to accommodate the system software i.e., it may take some time for vendors to accommodate this change, so it is encouraged to examine business critical software and vendor known issues to avoid software incompatibility, etc..
Requirements
OS X El Capitan requires any of the following Mac models and versions of OS X. It also requires at least 2GB of memory and 8.8GB of storage space. To find your model, memory, storage, and MacOS version, choose 'About This Mac' from the Apple menu on top left corner of your Mac.
Supported Mac Models:
• iMac models from mid 2007 or later
• MacBook models from late 2008 or later
• MacBook Pro models from mid 2007 or later
• MacBook Air models from late 2008 or later
• Mac mini models from early 2009 or later
• Mac Pro models from early 2008 or later.

Known Issues:
Shortly after you start Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 on Mac OS X El Capitan (version 10.11), Outlook hangs when it tries to sync with the server. The Spinning Wait cursor is displayed, and the application status is displayed as 'Not Responding.
Note Outlook for Mac 2011 does not hang when you're working offline or when no accounts are added. This issue occurs only when Outlook tries to sync an account with the server.
Workaround:To work around this issue, run Outlook for Mac 2011 on Mac OS X Yosemite (version 10.10) or an earlier version.
This issue occurs in Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.5.5 and earlier versions when they are running on Mac OS X El Capitan (version 10.11). The issue does not occur on Mac OS X Yosemite (version 10.10) and earlier versions.
Status: Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.
